Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship in plumbing issued by the U.S. Department of Labor or the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council (may be substituted for one year of journeyman plumber experience).
- Backflow preventer inspection license required within six months of placement into position.
- Technical School (2-year degree) in related field preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- 5 years’ plumbing experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a journeyman plumber preferred.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the plumbing trade required.
- Ability to skillfully use the tools of the plumbing trade required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints is required.
- Ability to make rough sketches of required work from oral descriptions required.
- Knowledge in electric, carpentry, and HVAC preferred.
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
- Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner without direct supervision required.
Licenses and Compliance:
- Possession of valid state issued motor vehicle operator’s license and good driving record required.
- Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
- Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
- Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the “Make it G.R.E.A.T.” standards required.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business required.
- Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
