PURPOSE STATEMENT: 

The Marketing Intern supports the Chamber’s strategic marketing and communications efforts by assisting with content development, digital outreach, social media, event promotion, and member visibility initiatives. This role offers a hands-on learning experience in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment while contributing to the visibility and impact of the Chamber and its members across the Columbus Region. 

 JOB SUMMARY 

As the Marketing Intern, you’ll gain real-world experience working alongside a high-performing marketing team. Your responsibilities will span writing and editing content, supporting email and social media campaigns, updating the website, preparing marketing collateral for events and programs, and assisting with multimedia projects such as the Chamber’s cbuzz podcast. 

You’ll have opportunities to engage directly with member businesses and Chamber events and programs, building valuable marketing and communication skills in a collaborative, professional setting. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Content Development 

  • Draft and edit copy for social media, email newsletters, blogs, and member-facing communications 
  • Assist with visual content creation using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite  

Social Media Support 

  • Schedule and publish content across Chamber platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X) 
  • Monitor performance and help implement strategies to increase engagement 

Website & Email Updates 

  • Support updates to the Chamber website, including posting member news, events, and insights 
  • Assist with newsletter development and distribution, including formatting and content placement 

Event Marketing & Support 

  • Help prepare promotional materials for events and programs 
  • Assist with live social coverage and on-site marketing support during Chamber events 
  • Contribute to event scripting, signage, and PowerPoint presentations 

Podcast Support 

  • Assist with logistics, guest communication, and post-production promotion for the cbuzz podcast 

Administrative & Research Support 

  • Conduct research to support marketing campaigns, member engagement, or partnership development 
  • Provide administrative support as needed for ongoing team projects

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

To be successful in this role, an individual should meet these minimum education and experience requirements: 

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, preferably majoring in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, or a related field 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X) 
  • Experience with tools like Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress, or Hootsuite is a plus 
  • Interest in marketing, branding, public relations, or nonprofit communications 
  • Enthusiasm for supporting Columbus’s business community and learning through collaboration 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

To perform the job successfully, an individual should be able to meet the physical requirements of the position: 

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing office-based tasks. 
  • Capability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. 
  • Ability to travel locally for events, meetings, and other job-related responsibilities. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

Year-round internship (minimum 10–15 hours per week during the academic year; optional increased hours in summer if available). Flexible schedule within standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM). Interns are expected to attend key Chamber events as part of their experience.
